What´s Autism?
Probably many people have heard this word, but they don´t know more than they could see in "Rain Man".
Autism is a type of the disorder of the group that called "pervasive developmental disorders" (PDD) or autistic spectrum disorders (ASD). This are more common than disorders more known by the people, like Down syndrome for example. And are clasificated in five categories:
- Autism
- Asperger syndrome
- Pervasive disorder-not otherwise specified (PDD-NOS).
- Rett syndrome
- Childhood disintegrative disorder (CDD)
Last two disorders are more rare.
Profesionals (and parents, that usually are the first that see something wrong with their kid) believe that the children born with Autism and their principal difficulties are the social interaction, communication and behavior.
Much parents share the experience to have a son or a daughter with Autism, and the difficult that it is. An organization (Autism speaks) made a video that ilustrate how is the life with this children, and shows parent´s difficults and concerns.
The diagnosis is difficult, but is important that be early, because the early intervention can change the brain´s develop
But it´s important that you know that there isn´t just one type of autism or one treatment to it. And the mojority of them aren´t medical treatment but educational. This is a big difficult, because some schools can´t give to this children that they need.
How I said previously, two children with autism are different, but parents share they experiences (maybe this could help to other persons). Susan´s son couldn´t learn how to write, and she with the Brian´s Occupational Terapist made a video and sell it in the Web.
Researchers are studing about the genetic component of Autism, the parts of the brain that aren´t communicating, the environment factors and how to test it.

Laboral Integration

The laboral integration is a way to the people with any disability can gain admittance in a "normal" job.
The place in where this person will work, must be appropiate to his or her personal characteristic. For example, a person who don´t know how handle the money, can´t work in a shop. This is important because the boss and the employee (in this case, the person with disability) can fulfil their expectations.
The laboral integration allow to this persons have money, and give them the possibility to be an independent person, or to give financial help to their fathers, or to form a family if they want.
For the society, this is so good too, because it will teach us to appreciate different people, and make this society more varied and tolerant.
I think that the first time when I really learned of ir was a both moths ago, in class. Previously, when I was a girl, I thougth in this when saw people with Down syndrome or with other disabilities working in the supermarket, but "learn" just now.
I´m would like work in this area in the future. In FONADIS for example. This is the perfect work to me. I would can live in the south, working in one office of FONADIS, doing contacts into the companys and the persons with disabilities.

My last weekend

The last weekend I did a lot of things.
Saturday:
I´m part of the juvenile pastoral of the school where studied (Hispano Americano). The instructors have a room in the school, there we have materials and a space to make metings. There we can study or have a rest if we arrived early or before of the meetings with our young people. Really, the room isn´t beautiful and has a big hole in the ceiling, and anyone of us have time to clean it... really was untidy.
Last year the principal changed, and the new is a strict person, but in the bad sence of the word. She said that we must leave to use this room, because she don´t will repare the ceiling and neither will clean it, so, we must share a room with three others groups. It was very difficult because in many times two groups needed at the same time the room.
So, we decided clean and paint the room.
We put out all the papers and sold it. Made the same with the books, go to San Diego and sold them. This was very funny, because I had to negotiate with the persons that buy us the books, and we earned $32.000!!!
With this we could buy any paints and a carpet.
We painted all the day and was very funny!!
In other post I tell you the rest of my weekend, because now I wrote a lot!!!

My area of study is interesting to me because is assorted and that allow consideer a person like an complete sistem, not like just a hand that doesn´t work for example.
Moreover is a formal way to help people who can´t participate in our society.
Poor people, people with any disability, old people, etc. If we don´t work with "patients" but with active people, we can obtain that them can make a lot of things if they want.
It´s important to me that my career be useful to improve our world. Many people say that change the world is impossible. I´m a dreamer, so I believe that if many people dream, and include in their dreams to the other persons (not only themselves and their family or loved people) it may happen.

It´s a website of ergonomy (International Ergonomics Association), very complete, you can read a lot of studies and informate of events. So, like our teacher really isn´t an expert in the theme, we must look for information by other ways.

I chose this song of Aretha Franklin because last week remember this song with a classmate and I looked for it and download from internet.
I love a movie that the characters sang this song, it´s name is "My Best Friend's Wedding". When I see this movie, everytime, at the end, I cry. Is so terrible!!! She lost his true love!!
Also like me because its rhythm is very lively.

This is a tool to help me in my english class.
I thought that it be easy for me, but since eigth grade I haven´t serious english classes, and really it´s difficult to me. You can see that only reading this text
About me...
I´m studing Occupational Therapy, in third grade.
Just now a classmate and I will make a proyect to Laboral Integration with pupils of Alameda school, and this idea have me so happy.
What more can I say??
Any important in my life is "Comunidades", the next friday we will make the "welcome" to the new childs that begin to participate in this lovely proyect. It´s important too because I´m organizing this...
My boyfriend... he´s name is Pipe, sometimes I call him "My hairy". I love him a lot. I love spend my time with him, laugthing, cooking, dreaming, sleeping, working, talking... But he knows speak, read and write in english, and when he read that I´ll be red with embarrassment

I´m tired, and Funcional Anatomy is waiting for me...
